The Historical Conditions of the Birth and the Reproduction of “Permanent Employment” as a Male Employment Archetype in Japan

To understand the issues of the decline of the practice of “permanent employment” as a male employment archetype, we attempt to highlight the two principal historical dynamics that allowed the emergence and reproduction of that practice: the setting up of organizational capabilities in enterprises which contributed to the long term development of the firm’s own human capital and the building up of the firm as a place of social solidarity.
